16 Days Campaign Analytical Summary 2012

The 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence Campaign 2012 Analytical Summary is a reflection of collected data from the 2012 16 Days post-Campaign survey, events posted on the online Campaign Calendar, emailed correspondence from participating organizations, and Google Alerts. The data and analysis is based on this documented evidence and does not reflect the entirety of events organized around the world under the 16 Days Campaign. Read the report here.

Global Highlights

Support

  • 382 requests for hard copies of the Take Action Kit (TAK), more than double from 2011
  • Electronically available TAK was downloaded 49,346 times
  • TAK was made available in 37 languages
  • 16 Days logo made available for download in 60 languages

Participation

  • CWGL in contact with over 5, 167 organization in 187 countries in every region of the world that have participated in Campaign
  • In 2012, 747 organizations in 118 directly in contact with CWGL about activities, Campaign support, and Take Action Kit materials
  • 24 countries from Asia and the Pacific, 27 countries from Europe, 17 from Latin America and the Caribbean, 11 from the Middle East and North Africa region, 2 from North America, and 37 from sub-Saharan Africa participated in the 2012 Campaign

Thematic Priority Areas

  • Focus on issues varied based on regional context
  • Sexual violence during and post-conflict
  • Proliferation of small arms and domestic violence
  • Violence perpetrated by state agents
  • Approximately 300 initiatives focused specifically on the theme
  • 45.8% of these initiatives concentrated on proliferation of small arms and their role in domestic violence
  • Initiatives also intersected with other pressing issues like health and access to health services and justice
